Expert highlights plight of the low income indebted

Teresa Perchard from Citizens Advice also suggests that a debt solution can be particularly hard to find for those with limited incomes as a result of a lack of access to a range of financial products.

Often people living under these kinds of circumstances turn to money lenders outside of the mainstream financial services market in Britain and find themselves facing further problems with “unscrupulous loan sharks”, she continued.

“People on low incomes often struggle to find affordable credit and feel forced into taking out loans with sky-high interest rates,” said Ms Perchard.

Earlier this month, the Citizens Advice charity raised fears that people in credit card debt would be in more danger of bailiffs abusing their powers if the latest proposals within the tribunals, courts and enforcement bill became law.
