Debt fears raised for UK carers

The Carers UK organisaiton claims that the current benefits system across the country is letting down financially people who already have to deal with difficult emotional circumstances.

To make its case, the national charity cites its own research that shows around half of all carers have had to give up employment and close to one-third are having to deal with “severe financial hardship”.

“Despite making such a huge contribution to society, carers pay a heavy price for their commitments,” a statement from the organisation makes clear.

“Carers UK believes the scale of the problem cannot be underestimated. We are calling for a radical rethink on how society values carers.”

Exclusive of mortgage arrears, the average household debt level in the UK tops £8,800 and the figure is rising, according to Credit Action.
