Charity launches research into UK’s ‘over-indebted’

The organisation was established in 1991 with the aim of improving debt advice services nationwide and to that end its latest study assessed the standards of support for those most at risk of serious debt management issues.

Government officials and the MAT suggest that efforts designed to aid the one in 13 Brits whose debt situations have spiralled out of control over coming months will use the recently published research as a blueprint for action.

“This paper draws together what we know about met and unmet demand and potential triggers for increased advice need and its findings will be developed further by the creation of an online information hub,” explained head of research and policy at the MAT Jim Fearnley.

Since its founding in the early 1990s, the MAT has worked in collaboration with the private sector, as well as government bodies and debt advice agencies to help those in serious financial difficulties in the UK.
