Debt drives man to suicide
Nicholas Bizley, a 51-year-old bank worker who had a wife and two children, lay in front of a freight train as he felt he could not deal with his £100,000 debt problem.
“There was no way that he could discharge such a huge amount of money. He was being chased for non-payment of credit cards,” said British Transport Police coroner’s liaison officer Diana Parsons.
Mr Bizley was said to have run up the debts “just to stay afloat”.
“We looked for gambling or evidence of a separate life, but there was no gap in his life. There’s no understanding where the money had gone,” added Ms Parsons.
With his family unaware of his debt problems or even his contemplation of suicide, his death highlights the need for people to talk to families and experts about financial difficulties before they become too much.
