Homeowners in Britain could be wasting hundreds of pounds every year because of inefficient radiators.
Energy price hikes over recent years have been pushing many people into debt and even fuel poverty, but a survey by the Manufacturers' Association of Radiators and Convectors has discovered that 20 per cent of homes still use radiators without convector fans.
These allow more heat to be pumped out quickly so heating systems do not have to be switched on for as long.
On the contrary, less efficient models force even energy efficient boilers to work harder, eating up more fuel.
Managing director of Quinn Radiators Nick Whitwell said that if 24.5 million inefficient radiators in Britain were replaced, it would "help to significantly improve the energy efficiency of these homes".
People who feel they may need a new boiler soon were recently urged to do their research by Christian Engelke from Viessmann, who said this is better than waiting until the old one packs up and then making a "distressed purchase" that could require a loan or other debt.
