Millions use credit cards every day

More than three million UK consumers now use their credit cards every day, according to a recent study by Abbey.

With debt management problems worsening nationwide, the financial services firm reports that as many as 18 million people now spend money on their credit cards at least once a week.

Moreover, online spending is becoming increasingly common and Abbey’s research found that around 20 million Britons now use their credit cards to purchase goods via the internet.

“The high street was only marginally less popular for credit card usage with almost nineteen million people (55 per cent of cardholders) regularly using their card to fund non-virtual shopping trips,” a statement from Abbey explained.

A report from Apacs, the UK’s payment association, revealed this summer that record amounts of money were spent by British consumers on plastic over the course of last year.
