Brits looking to ‘trim their bills’

With bills rising across the country millions of UK consumers are looking to reduce the costs associated with their energy supplies by switching their provider, it has been revealed.

According to figures compiled by the industry watchdog Ofgem, last year saw close to five million households change their energy provider in search of less expensive arrangements.

The figures have been released as people nationwide struggle to alleviate there debt management problems and gas and electricity supply bills continue to increase dramatically.

Data from uSwitch.com has shown that the average annual household energy payments now total more than £1,000, which for many people will mean increased difficulty in becoming debt free.

“Making use of competition should be a habit – an annual financial health check – not a one off moment of weakness with a door step energy salesman,” said Tim Wolfenden, head of home services at uSwitch.com.

The overall level of personal debt among UK consumers is rising at a rate of closer to £1 million every five minutes, according to figures from Credit Action.
