A number of people could be left facing debt problems as it has been revealed that individuals have been billed incorrectly for energy services in recent years.
Research carried out by uSwitch.com has revealed that three in ten households have paid the wrong amount for such costs in the last 24 months.
It found that over 11 million people have unexpectedly owed cash to their energy suppliers following a discrepancy between estimated and actual bills.
The average amount Britons need to pay back following such miscalculations is now eight per cent higher than it was in 2009.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at the website, said: “Clearly there’s a long way to go before the energy industry lays the ghost of bad billing to rest.”
The company recently revealed that energy costs are on the rise, with individuals spending, on average, £279 more on such bills than they were in 2008.
