People trying to save money in an attempt to ease debt worries could be doing so by cutting back on driving costs.
A study by AA Financial Services found more than half of consumers are likely to use their car less to save cash.
Mark Huggins, director of the company, suggested people are becoming more careful about how they spend their money.
“During times of economic uncertainty many families budget more carefully and tend to save as much as they can, just in case,” he said.
Mr Huggins went on to explain that consumers are also reducing expenditure away from motoring.
He highlighted the fact that 28 per cent are cutting down on eating out, with almost a quarter visiting the cinema or theatre less often.
Those who are taking a car abroad over the summer were recently advised by Sarah Munro of the Post Office to save money on fuel costs by topping up unleaded vehicles in the UK, as prices are cheaper than those in Europe.
