Brits warned of mobile use abroad charges

Britons jetting off on their summer holidays have been warned of the charges associated with using their mobile phones abroad, as the steep payments could lead to monetary, even debt worries for some.

New research from uSwitch has revealed 1.3 million holidaymakers are at risk of overseas charges just for turning their devices on.

The study showed 22 million individuals will be taking their handsets on vacation with them this year, but 15 million of them will not check any related costs beforehand.

Almost one-third (32 per cent) of Brits have previously admitted to being shocked at the bills incurred when using their mobiles in foreign countries.

Matthew Wheeler, communications expert at the organisation, advised: “Contacting your mobile network should be high on every mobile user’s holiday checklist.”

A recent study carried out by Saga warned of the dangers of using credit cards while abroad, as £100 million is being wasted on associated fees each year.
