CAB launches recruitment drive as debt woes worsen

Manager at the CAB Marti Lord told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo that his staff have been inundated with requests for advice as debt management problems spiral out of control for many consumers in the local area.

Indeed, Mr Lord said he has considered hiring a doorman to implement some form of crowd control outside the CAB’s building, such is the demand for advice among indebted local residents.

“We got to the situation where we could quite legitimately have taken on a bouncer,” he said.

“There were a few occasions when we had some problems with people who we physically could not fit into our waiting room.”

Figures from the Credit Action charity have shown that the overall level of personal debt in the UK increases by close to £1 million every four minutes.
