Citizens Advice aims to give indebted their say

Many of those who approach Citizens Advice about debt explain that tax credit overpayments being demand back by the government has left them in need of a debt management plan.

And with these kinds of problems in mind, Citizens Advice is initiating an online survey designed to canvass public opinion regarding what might have be wrong about the country’s tax credit system.

“We want to find out what people really think about tax credits and whether any difficulties they have experienced would make them reluctant to claim again,” said Citizens Advice social policy officer John Wheatley.

“The results of the survey will also give us a clearer idea of how people have been affected and what they think should be done.”

Citizens Advice Bureaux across England and Wales attempt to give appropriate debt advice to thousands of people facing financial hardships each month, the organisation’s own figures make clear.
