Expert offers debt advice to divorcees

Chris Tapp, associate director for Credit Action, suggested that steps should be taken to ensure one partner does not find him or herself bearing the brunt of a difficult debt management situation.

Relevant creditors and credit agencies should be kept aware of any alterations to payment or income situations in the interest of accuracy and fairness when it comes to both present and future credit arrangements, Mr Tapp maintains.

“It can be that money is the cause of the break up in the first place […] so it’s a shame for money to break up the relationship, then kick you while you’re down afterwards,” remarked the debt management expert.

Founded in 1994, Credit Action operates as a money education charity in England and Wales.
