Indebted Brits ‘should know where to get help’

Consumers facing debt management problems in the UK need to make sure that they know where they can get help with their personal finance issues, it has been suggested.

In the wake of bad news on the British economy, the Cheshire Building Society has urged people who are struggling financially to use the debt help services that are available in their local areas.

The society picked out Citizens Advice as one if the most commonly used information resources for indebted UK consumers and the organisation is keen to stress the importance of diligence when it comes to financial management.

“An uncertain economy can cause worry for many individuals but taking the time to ensure you are well prepared can provide peace of mind and make a big difference, whatever the future holds,” said Karen Torson, partnerships business manager at the Cheshire.

Last month, Citizens Advice reported that its staff had helped hundreds of thousands of people with their mortgage-related debt management problems in the first two months of 2008.
