Movers look to keep costs down

More and more people are looking to keep the costs of moving house as low as possible by adopting a “do-it-yourself” attitude, it has been revealed.

With debt management problems squeezing the budgets of consumers across the country, Lloyds TSB has found that most home movers relocate without professional help in order to save money.

In addition, almost one in ten British movers are now aiming to avoid estate agent fees by buying and selling properties through their own contacts rather than those of professionals.

“In the current economic environment it’s not surprising that consumers are taking a more cost conscious approach to moving home,” said Alison Burns, director of network mortgage sales at Lloyds TSB.

The cahoot banking group reported recently that there are millions of consumers in the UK who are unwilling to give up their shopping habits despite the downturn in the economy and their difficulties in becoming debt free.
