As Blue Monday approaches, mental health is back on the agenda

Christmas is over, the January Sales are done and the rumour is that snow is on the way. But something else is coming……the bills.

From all that frivolous spending over the last four weeks, the countdown is on to the original Blue Monday – 20th January. Monday 20th January is the statistically the most depressing day of the year. We blogged about this earlier this month as news from national charity, Shelter, confirmed one in 11 Brits will fail to pay their mortgage or rent this month.

To fuel more debate around the January Blues, the over spending and the impending debt of 2014, see the first clip of our latest video diary. In December 2013, I drove across the Yorkshire Moors to meet our client, Michelle Clark. Michelle bravely talked to me about her debt had how it had affected her mental health and emotional wellbeing – how vulnerable she had felt as the bills dropped on the door step. Trying to speak with her creditors and come to new payment agreements, the panic continued to rise as whilst showing some empathy to her situation, their final note on the call was that the bill still needed to be paid.

When talking with Michelle, I could imagine the tears, panic and isolation she must have felt during that time. Please watch this first excerpt from the video diary and find inspiration that through companies such as ClearDebt, help is out there.
