‘Low-cost’ energy tariff launch welcomed

The launch of a new ‘no-frills’ online energy tariff has been welcomed by price comparison website Confused.com.

E.On’s Extra Saver package, which has become the cheapest energy tariff in two of the UK’s 14 regions, has helped challenge British Gas’ dominance of the best-buy tables in the industry, head of energy at the website Gareth Kloet has stated.

However, Mr Kloet has warned customers looking to switch their mortgage provider to “look beyond” such publications, as they are largely based on average energy consumption figures which may not apply to all households.

“Customers who don’t shop around for the best tariff to meet their needs are in danger of being left high and dry,” he remarked.

Homeowners who have been looking to reduce their energy outgoings as they seek to become debt free may wish to follow Mr Kloet’s advice and conduct thorough research before switching provider.

They may also wish to note recent advice from the Consumer Council for Water, which has urged customers to cut their bills by becoming more water-efficient.
