We’re already half way through the student year and the National Union of Students (NUS) are confirming around 28,500 school leavers are still waiting to receive their student grants. Still?!! Appalling.

These days, our children seem to have the need for every modern gadget on offer. With the desire to own so many of these items, the question has to be asked, how well have our children learnt the lessons of the recession? Have they experienced the harsh realities of the credit crunch enough to equip themselves with the right financial know how, to budget for their own better future?
In days gone by, we often used to say that there was no need to save for a baby – in fact, I remember many a conversation with newly weds when they’d be asking about preparing for a family and someone in the crowd would say “If you wait til you can afford a baby, you’ll never have one!” And so the encouragement continued to do the deed and wait for the bundle of joy to arrive, no matter what the bank balance shows.
