HMRC calls on mothers to renew tax credits

Mothers should renew their tax credits as soon as they can to avoid missing the July 31st deadline, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has suggested.

The tax office is calling on women with children to submit their claims soon and also make it aware of any changes in circumstances, including pay and childcare.

“We’d urge mums to renew their tax credits claim as soon as possible, so it’s all sorted before the busy summer holidays,” commented HMRC’s Sarah Gaines. “Don’t leave it until the last minute, renew your claim now.”

The HMRC warned that if people do not get their claims in on time, their payments could cease.

It estimates that approximately six million families in the UK currently benefit from the scheme.

People struggling with debt management may not wish to miss out on tax credits, which give larger payments to people on lower incomes.

A working couple earning £25,000 between them a year with three children could earn £87 a week.
